Message from NC SAFE KIDS Chairman Jim Long

A message from Commissioner Jim Long, Chairman of NC SAFE KIDS

If a disease were killing our children at the rate of injuries, North Carolinians would be outraged and demand a cure. Yet, injuries are occurring at a daily rate, like a major health epidemic. SAFE KIDS Logo

Unintentional and preventable injuries are the leading cause of death and disability to North Carolina children through age 14. Each year, one in four of our children will be injured seriously enough to require medical attention.

We can develop interventions to keep children from being injured. We can educate ourselves and our children about safety and take preventative action to reduce children's risk.

Your Department of Insurance has established a partnership with children's advocates to develop a comprehensive injury prevention campaign. This partnership, the North Carolina SAFE KIDS Coalition, is a network of professionals and volunteers from all walks of life who have a single purpose: to prevent injuries to children.

Please join the North Carolina SAFE KIDS coalition to prevent unintentional injuries to children in your community. Our children's safety and health depends on the actions of every adult.

Sincerely,

Jim Long, Chair
NC SAFE KIDS
